When the original cemetery in town, the North Burying ground, was running low on space, our Town Fathers decided that a new place of burial was needed. They settled on a tract of land owned by the Methodist (now Federated) Church. Then known as Center Cemetery, the first burial took place about 1852. In 1870, the Middlefield Cemetery Association was formed to oversee the expansion of the Center Cemetery. Since then, we have done our best to maintain the rural character of the Town and to maintain the grounds in a dignified manner.
